8 Great Star Wars Details in Galaxy’s Edge.

There are hundreds of details to be discovered in the new Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, and soon to be seen at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But I’ve chosen 8 fantastic details that I think really make the Force come alive. Check them out!

1. 77 80 83

Look below at the cargo ship atop of Docking Bay 7. Studying it you’ll see the numbers 77 and 83.

What do these numbers reference? Well, they give tribute to two of three films in the first trilogy. The number 77 relates to the year Star Wars: A New Hope premiered. The number 83 relates to the third film, The Last Jedi. So where’s The Empire Strikes Back? For that answer, you have to go into the restaurant.

Look up while you’re in the restaurant and you’ll see the center crate being lowered down. It has the number 80 and symbolically references the one film in the trilogy leaving you feel a little “down” than “up” at the end of the movie. It’s a clever reference.

2. Popcorn and a Soda

No, this isn’t going to the movies. This time you’re in the movies.

In Merchant Row you will find Kat Saka’s Kettle Pop Corn. This mix of sweet, savory and spicy popcorn called, “Outpost Mix” is out of this world. And your tasty treat is delivered in little droid buckets.

I’m not a popcorn fan. But this really blew me away. I’ve tried more varieties at Tokyo Disney than I care to share. None of them impress me. But this one was really great. In fact, with all of the really super snack choices at Disneyland, it was one of my favorites.

By the way, this is one of the places in Black Spire Outpost you can get Coca Cola beverages in the thermo detonator style cans. They’re a great keepsake as well.

3. Garbage Cans

“What an incredible smell I’ve discovered!”

Disney trash receptacles are a study in graphic design in and of themselves. There are others that are more detailed than these. But there’s a great little detail that makes them really fun. On the side is a set of numbers. It seems random, but it’s the code Luke cries out to C3PO and R2D2 to get them out of the trash compactor. You can see it play out below:

4. Drinking Fountain

Speaking of the trash compactor, you’ll recall in that same scene that a strange alien squid like creature nearly taking the life of Luke before the walls started to close in. That same creature can be found when you get a drink of water. See below:

5. Mountain Range

Nothing completes a Disney themed land than mountains. Disney parks are known for its mountains like Big Thunder, Splash and even Space Mountain. But then Radiator Springs created an entire mountain range, partly to block out the Racers ride show building and the high wire transmission lines in that area, but also to simply create the desert terrain that makes up this Route 66 location. To stand in this land and see yourself nearly surrounded by mountains at night is really amazing.

Black Spire Outpost is no less. There are mountains all around you. Yes, they block the view of show buildings. But they do an unbelievable job of making you feel like you’re truly arrived in a different place. Here is just a part of what you’ll see:

6. Interactivity

When I first arrived at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, the morning crowd was led toward the Millennium Falcon. What stood out in that moment was not just seeing this full-size Falcon, but it just happened that on a platform at Docking Bay 7 across from the Falcon was Chewie waving his arms and greeting both the ship and the guests.

Seizing the moment, I stepped up to the photo platform get my photo with Chewie. Great memories are made here!

I’ve had my photo taken with Chewie before, but there was something amazing about doing it here in the middle of this new land, with the Falcon behind us.

I found others walking around. Sometimes they were doing photos, but often they were interacting with the guests as if we were part of the story. I found Stormtroopers looking down from a sentry position at Black Spire Station.

I later found Rey, made famous by Daisy Riddle, in the Resistance Encampment. She agreed to a photo in front of the entrance to the new Rise of the Resistance attraction.

I’ll talk more about this in another article, but I don’t think you can have enough of these characters mingling and engaging guests as they visit the planet Batuu.

7. Gift Card

I would have missed this entirely if a Cast Member hadn’t asked if I wanted a gift card when I purchased a Rex droid. Why would I want a gift card? Well they make a great keepsake–and they’re free! Check it out!

It’s a like a heavy bronze coin, and you can add as many credits/dollars to it as you’d like. Always nice to have a free keepsake.

8. This is the Droid You’re Looking For!

Speaking of Rex, here’s my favorite detail in the cosmos. Rx-24, former pilot of Star Tours, is now the DJ at Oga’s Cantina. He is the perfect guy for the job, and you have to check him out when you visit Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge.

But Rex is also a robot-like droid toy that they sell at Droid Depot. Lots of great merchandise can be found throughout Galaxie’s Edge.
