Hollywood Land

Hollywood Land is a tribute to Hollywood, but unlike Hollywood Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this setting is really just a set of facades—sort of a back lot version of Hollywood. That façade look is what greets you when you visit Monster’s Inc. It isn’t a draw to visiting this dark ride, but if you like the movie, then check this attraction out.

Unique is the Animation Academy, which allows you to step into a big room that surrounds you with highlights from Disney and Pixar’s best films. Take a seat and just absorb it all. It’s a great place to sit back and take a break from the crowds.

Surrounding this is a number of places to visit such as Turtle Talk with Crush, an opportunity to draw Disney characters, a meet ‘n’ greet with Anna and Elsa of Frozen, and interactive exhibits focusing on the art of animation.

Speaking of Anna and Elsa, check out the Hyperion Theater, behind the background façade at the end of the boulevard. This is a full-scale musical—worthy of a Broadway show—only shorter. There are several shows throughout the day, so check your Times Guide or app. And get there early enough for a good seat!

Still, with all this, it’s easy to conclude that perhaps this part of the park needs the most attention. Good news! New attractions are not only on their way—they’re already here. There are meet ‘n’ greet locations with Marvel characters such as Spiderman and Captain America—something you can’t do at Walt Disney World, because Universal Florida has licensing rights to them in that state. Soon new attractions will be heading to Disney California Adventure based on Marvel heroes.

But you don’t have to wait for that day to experience all the thrills of Marvel. Check out Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! If you think this looks like Tower of Terror decked out like an aluminum Christmas tree—you’re not far off. It was the Tower of Terror. But now it has been re-done with Guardians—and it’s a blast. Don’t miss this attraction! You can’t find it elsewhere. You will drop more than ever and rock more than ever to the best of 80s music.
